How to Pick Winners
Race to Dubai betting success depends on your ability to pick winners, and whilst we cannot provide a complete course in effective golf betting here, we can provide you with some basic tips on how to significantly improve your chances of making money.
- Be Selective – The first thing we need to do when considering betting on the Race to Dubai is to be selective. Whilst betting on the outright winner has its place, we can improve our chances of winning by focusing on two-ball and three-ball matches. The logic behind this tip is simple: Betting on the outright winner of the Dubai World Championship might only give you a 1 in 60 chance of success, but betting on a player to win a two ball event gives you a 1 in 3 chance of success (because he can win, lose or draw). Being selective about the markets you bet on can therefore dramatically increase the odds of you making money from your golf betting.
- Follow Form – Although we all have our favourite golfers, when it comes to betting on the Race to Dubai, we should set aside our personal preferences and follow form. A golden rule of thumb is to only place a bet on a player that has the form to win. This means looking at recent results and comparing the performance of the player you are considering with those of the other players. For example, if you are considering betting on the favourite in a two-ball match, you should look to see if the favourite completed the previous round than their competitor. If they did, they have the best recent form and can be bet on with some confidence, but if the opponent has the best recent form, you may do better to leave this particular match alone.
- Bet Singles – Placing an accumulator bet on several players in two-ball matches may give the potential of a large payout, but you are much more likely to lose because at least one or two surprises could occur. The best way of generating a good strike rate of winning golf bets is to bet in singles only. If you must place an accumulator bet for the fun of it, use token stakes only so that your loss is minimal.
- Think Psych – Mindset is very important in all golf tournaments, and not just in the Race to Dubai. You should therefore think about the psychology of any player you want to bet on. Are they positive about their chances? Is their mind fully on the game? Are they hungry for a win? If your answers to these questions are not positive, you should think again before placing your bet.
Good luck!
