World Tour Championship

The Race to Dubai might keep fans captivated for a whole year, but the tension only reaches a crescendo at the World Tour Championship in November. This is the final tournament of the European Tour season, where the Race to Dubai climaxes and one golfer is crowned the overall champion.

The event, launched in 2009 and sponsored by DP World since 2012, is contested by the top 60 players in the Race to Dubai and is staged at Jumeirah Golf Estates. Jumeirah is an attractive coastal region of Dubai and the lavish golf complex provides a fitting home for the World Championship.

The tournament takes place on the stunning Earth course, which was designed by legendary golfer Greg Norman and poses many probing questions of players. These challenges are amplified by the pressure of the situation, with the outright winner of the year-long competition often still to be decided going into the final few holes and a prestigious tournament in its own right up for grabs.

Among the highlights have been Henrik Stenson’s magical eagle on the 18th hole in 2013, when he wrapped up victory in both the Race to Dubai and the season-ending championship. Rory McIlroy has also won both the final tournament and the overall Race, on two occasions, on a course that has come to be regarded as one of the finest golfing destinations on earth.
