Race to Dubai 2016

golferHenrik Stenson captured the second European Tour crown of his career after winning the 2016 Race to Dubai. The Swede, also champion in 2013, claimed a couple of big titles in a captivating season, most notably landing his first major championship in July when he held off the challenge of Phil Mickelson at Royal Troon to win The Open in scintillating fashion.

Stenson also won the BMW International Open, bagged an Olympic silver medal and finished in the top two on three other occasions on his way to becoming the only man apart from Rory McIlroy to win the Race to Dubai title more than once.

Despite Stensonís consistent excellence, there were still four players in with a chance of winning the Race to Dubai when the tour arrived at Jumeirah Golf Estates for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in November.

Masters winner Danny Willett, the rapidly-improving Alex Noren and three-time Race to Dubai winner McIlroy were all in contention after impressive seasons, but Stenson produced yet another solid display to clinch the Harry Vardon trophy, as Matthew Fitzpatrick won the World Tour Championship to climb up the final money list.

Willett finished second in the overall 2016 standings, with Noren third and Tyrrell Hatton moving ahead of 2015 winner McIlroy to take fourth.
